The OEM shock spring fitted to the KYB shock is only 70 N/mm spring rate, so for most riders over 65-70kgs you may well struggle to achieve the correct sag setting (of 10% static and 30% with the rider on board*) - and there is certainly very little additional margin for luggage or a passenger.
*Equivalent to 20mm and 60mm respectively with the standard 200mm shock stroke.
The result is an overly soft and lower rear end of the bike, potentially affecting handing & braking, and offering limited remaining rear suspension travel.
Our most simple and affordable solution is to upgrade the stock spring with a stiffer rate to more closely match your riding requirements, and we offer a range of direct replacement linear-wound springs to properly support the rider, together with a passenger and/or luggage.
Also included is a pair of tough plastic adaptor rings, to allow the fitment of these thicker-coil heavier-duty shock springs to the OEM Yamaha T7 shock with the hydraulic preload adjuster.
The 10mm stroke of the PA can then allow for up to 60kg of additional load - be that a heavier rider, passenger or luggage weight - whilst still achieving the 30% (60mm) rider sag setting recommended.
Simply select the appropriate spring rate from the drop-down menu above, based on the suggested rider, passenger & luggage loads below:
- 80 N/mm - Rider up to 70Kg (with max 50Kg luggage)
- 85 N/mm - Rider up to 80Kg (with max 50Kg luggage)
- 90 N/mm - Rider up to 90Kg (with light passenger and/or 15Kg luggage)
- 95 N/mm - Rider up to 100Kg (with passenger and/or 30Kg luggage)
NOTE: If fitting lowering links, add 10% to rider weights for 20mm link, and 15% for 40mm links, to compensate for changes in rising-rate geometry.
NOTE: A SPRING COMPRESSOR IS REQUIRED TO REMOVE AND INSTALL THE SPRINGS.
Spring Free Length 235mm.
